Trauma Therapy for Abuse & PTSD

Trauma is an emotional response to a terrible event such as an accident, sexual assault, abuse, combat, or a natural disaster. Afterwards it is common to have reactions such as upsetting memories, increased jumpiness, or trouble sleeping. However, if it’s been longer than a few months and you’re still having difficulty, it may be time to seek help. Some people who experienced trauma as a child may not have symptoms until later in life or they may come and go over time. Long-term responses might include anxiety, flashbacks, nightmares, irritability, depression, emotional numbing, low self-esteem, strained relationships, substance abuse, self-harm behaviors and/or suicidal thoughts, and even physical symptoms.

Our therapists are experienced at assessing and treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and can help you find constructive ways of coping and processing past trauma. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy are two effective trauma treatments that we offer.
